Hello & Welcome to my 58th episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is a snowy bit of fibrous fun 😍

Oh how I love to watch snow melt—especially after being surrounded by it since November. Friday’s mild temperatures melted a lot of snow, so I grabbed a few colourful props and ran outside to enjoy the show! Yup… gotta ❤ a good ol’ fibrously fun backyard yarn-bombing photo shoot 🙂 Later that night, a storm blew into town and re-blanketed us in several inches of white :-/ But oh well, it was fun while it lasted…

The golfing clown is a Jean Greenhow design. This half-knitted WIP of mine has been cooped up in the back of my yarn closet for … gulp … years! Really wanna/oughta/gotta get around to finishing that guy! Fun to take him out to play in the snow, though! 😉 Want to try this at home? M’ Snow Lady’s face uses a pink Bramble❤️TINI for her nose and 2 green Hearty Links with Felted Loops for eyes and mouth 🙂

Hello & Welcome to my 36th episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today is a friendly day of cyber-fibre fun, in honour of our friend Ursula’s birthday ❤

Ursula is our neighbour. It’s always fun when we get together… But even when we can’t, good ol’ facebook bridges the smiles across the miles 🙂

In honour of this special day, I thought it’d be fun to greet her with a blog post to hightlight some of the crack-me-up fun photos she posts on my fb page ’cause they make her think of… me!

LoLoLoL ❤ Ursula
Happy birthday, to you!

Warning:  some of these fibrous images
really ought to come with a warning and
may be best viewed with eyes closed 😉

And please… don’t get any ideas
about knitting any of this stuff…
Or just share photos, if you do!!!

Did you know approx 360,000 people world-wide are born every day? That’s a BIG party! So if today’s your b-day, do consider this my “happy birthday” hugs/wishes post to you, too ❤

A Prayer for My Friend

serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received…
so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ.”

Hello & Welcome

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!

stitch markers and crochet snowflakes from Angela

me at the Apple Store

Well here we are, one week past Christmas and finally posting my decorated staircase … LoL … Honestly, some people really ought to get their Christmas knitting act together and start stitching as soon as the stores start their seasonal displays!!! Ah well, it’s all fun and I’m not feeling a bit foolish for posting ’em late 😉 Far better to be squeeking-in with this post before the stroke of New Year’s, than suffer the hang-over of waiting ’til next year!

Anyhoo…

This year’s Christmas staircase theme colours include: red, green and white with spindles wrapped in icy blue eyelash yarn. The tree is one ball each of fleece/eyelash yarn. The large heart on the tree is red eyelash yarn…. Gotta say, I ❤ that eyelash yarn! These were part of my birthday yarn stash purchase from Herrschners. The candles are red crochet (wedding gift) doilies, with flames knit of fancy-fluffy-puffy golden yarn from a friend. The various garlands are knit from Bernat Boa, Lily Crafter’s Cotton (discontinued) and Bernat Christmas Tinsel worsted cotton… Ooooh, plus one furry strip of Baby Monkey ultra-soft yarn… Adorning tree ornaments include: 1 green wool Heartfelted Bramble♥tini Loop Ornament + 2 red/white fleece Sweetie♥Knit♥Hearts + 5 green wool Hearty Links with Felted Loops + 2 i-Cord candy canes. The tree topper ribbon is from an embellished Ferrero Rocher gift pack. That white loopy thing below the ribbon is just me playing with plarn (plastic yarn)—spun on my drop spindle.

And finally… the lovely crochet snowflakes and charmed stitch markers (also pictured separately from last year’s post) were gifted to me last Christmas from Angela aka “Wish I Were Stitching” WP blog… Thanks again, Angela ❤

Then today, technically ending the year off right, we popped into our nearest Apple Store and bought a much needed flash drive… It’s charging now! And am I ever looking forward to unloading my overstuffed iPad of nearly 9 months worth of blogging photos!!!

Merry Christmas Morning,

everyone!

For the past couple of years—see Christmas Day 2013 & 2014—I’ve been decorating our staircase (in lieu of the Christmas tree we don’t have), then posting photos of my festive yarn bombing decor to the blog on Christmas Day 🙂

That tradition continues this year, although it is running a bit late… :-/ I’ll have photos for my next blog post!

Ah well, inspiration can sometimes take time… while the calendar waits for no one. Add to that my “procraftinator” tendencies and you get yarnful knotty-ness that will soon be nice 🙂

And speaking of knots…

Did you know there’s a group on Ravelry that actually looks for and forward to untangling “opportunities” with yarny messes? Yup, you read that correctly!

the KWH iPad Show #15 💜 the yarnbombing flower power of “knitting guy” Bryan

frowning Mac computer

.
Hello & Welcome
to my 15th episode of the
KWH iPad Show!

Today’s feature yields the right of way
to roadside yarn bombing & brighter days 🙂

stop sign flower website

Leaf it to yarn-bombers to put
a creative stop to traffic, right?!? 🙂

Having seen photos of this leafy stop sign hundreds of times online, I finally stopped to dig up its original source.

It’s called the “Stop Sign Flower designed by Bryan aka “knitting guy” in California, between 2011-2012. The stop sign street art eventually bloomed into a Clairmont neighbourhood bouquet of 100 signs! Bryan, with a little help from his yarnbombing friends, “planted” the stop sign flowers… one traffic-stopping corner at a time 🙂 And that’s how the stop sign flower garden flourished, until city officials put a stop to the fibrously fun floral foliage 😦 Perhaps you were there to stop and “smell” the signs in person?

DIY instructions are posted at Bryan’s website, along with photos from others who have made stop sign flowers in their own cities. Watch news video or read local media links  for more info.

Yarnbombing is a public art form. Somewhat similar to vandalism, but in a more community-minded, beautification effort sort of way. Yarnbombers enjoy creating fibrous cozies for virtually any-shaped stationary surface. The yarny street art is generally well-received by the public’s warm ‘n fuzzy heart 🙂

Here are a few more roadside yarn-bombing photos, which I’ve already shared on my Knitting With Heart facebook page. And here’s hoping that the next time you’re stuck in traffic—looking for a sign—you’ll have the good fortune of driving along the likes of these creative road sign designs!

the KWH iPad Show #9 💜 the knitting reel artistry of Greg Climer

frowning Mac computer

.
Hello & Welcome
to my 9th episode of the
KWH iPad Show!

Today’s feature is an artistic yarn about a
real knit scarf designed like a movie film reel 🙂

.

image

Yay, it’s the weekend! Time to kick back with the needles for a bit of knitting R&R 🙂 Our weekend forecast says it’s finally going to rain. We’re hoping for a downpour, since water bills are expensive and our lawns/gardens are getting pretty thirsty! Saturday the 13th is also World Wide Knit In Public Day. Will you be joining KIP friends to celebrate WWKIP Day? My rainy day weekend plan is to simply stay home, watch movies and knit…

Knitting and movies just seem to go together, wouldn’t you say? And for New York fashion designer, Greg Climer, they are kniterally the reel deal 😉 Reel as in film. And film, as in his 19-second “watchable scarf” test reel. The test stretches about as long as a New York City block and took about a year and a half to make! Frame-by-knitted-frame… he’s turning film into fabric and fabric into film! Climer endeavours to knit a 2-4 minute yarn story next. Wow, amazing art! Just imagine the reel length of that scarf!!!

Watch his 19-second test reel, below. Click here and here to read more about Climer’s fab fibrous film.

the KWH iPad Show #7 💜 my birthday yarn stash

frowning Mac computer

.
Hello & Welcome
to my 7th episode of the
KWH iPad Show!

Today’s feature is the frill of the yarn . . .
which I’ve draped dreamily to decorate the
late-to-be-leafy trees in our backyard 🙂

Last month, my birthday heart’s desire was for another yarn-filled year with hubby ♥ But then my iMac died… quickly dashing any yarn stashing I’d planned 😦 Ohhh, but have I told you lately how he loves me?

May long-weekend foliage

He loves me SO much that…

On April 29th, one day before my 15% off birthday discount voucher from Herrschners was due to expire, he actually reminded and encouraged me to use the coupon to buy MORE yarn! Yup, you read that correctly 😉 More yarn, after all the years I’ve spent stretching our home’s yarn stashing capacity. That’s love, I say… true love! And so, to Herrschners I went!

My target was $150.00, since that amount seems the best deal for shipping. It was delivered in time for the May (aka Victoria Day) long weekend, when our trees were still leafless and bare. So dressing the trees in frilly yarn was good yarn bombing fun 😉 Now a week later, they are fully-dressed in foliage and the yarn is stashed back inside!

boxed birthday yarn stash from Herrschners

My birthday yarn stash box includes:

Sundance Chantilly Frill yarn 3-pack
—> 3 balls each onyx/fantasy
Northlands Notion wool yarn 5-pack
—> 5 balls each black/denim/berry/olive/putty
Luminous Assortment 10-pack
—> 3 balls each emerald/lipstick
—> 2 balls each ice/frost
Northlands Cavern Multis yarn
—> 1 ball spectra
Dimensions: Learn Needle Felting Kit
Brass Findings Starter Kit
Luxite Double End Crochet Hook size Q-17
Hearts Candy Mold
Plus, yet another 10% off voucher
for my next Herrschners order 🙂

NOTE: I am simply a customer writing this of my own accord—not affiliated with Herrschners in any way.

In addition to yarn, I’m so glad to finally get my hands on a few crafty tools that have been on my “list” for a while. Inspiration for the heart candy mold came from reading  this post by Janice at TSB 🙂 And with approximate yarn sale savings of $250 + vouchers ($375 according to SRP), I’m pretty pleased with my birthday yarn stash purchase… totalling $139.73 shipping/taxes included 🙂

“Five stories, five photos” #1

Hey there everyone! After this week’s “victorian lamb cake” reblog-turned-blog-post kerfuffle, I needed to give the ol’ reblogging thing a re-try. So here is our first dandelion of the year, together with a pretty little sentiment about dandelions from “Wisher” at Pretty Little Things in a Box 🙂 As well, it ties-in with my next fun post about backyard yarn bombing… And sheep like to eat dandelions too, right?!?

Now if you’ll excuse me a moment…
I’ll be outside plucking wishes 😉

Enjoy! 🙂 ♥ ❤

Pretty Little Things In A Box

Hello friends and readers,

Hope your weekend had gone by well… I’ve been kept busy with craft classes to teach and to be honest, I’ve not had any free time on hand to craft lately. Over at Claire’s Blog, she’s been tagged for 5 stories, 5 photos, and I’ve been nominated for it. I think is fun to get tagged and write something different for the blog for a while. Something not so “crafty”.

The rules of this tag are simple:
“Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge”

My first photo for the tag:

from samsung phone 008

“When you look though a field of Dandelions,
you can either see a hundred weeds
or a thousand wishes”

Happy Spring E-eek-quinox ♥

lawn chairs with fresh snow

Oh snow…
here we snow again!

It had all melted, days before spring…
But now look there at our lawn chairs,
where we’d been sitting (‘n knitting)
outside and everything!

So now spring has arrived,
Canadian Geese honking outside,
trees all are budding and we’re
celebrating inside, under another
fresh fallen cover of whiteness.

It’s been a fairly wacky year for weather, wouldn’t you say? We had one snowy day in September, followed by one of our mildest, spring-like winter’s ever. And now, spring is looking like winter. There were fresh flakes that fell on the first day of spring 2014, too… Oh and who can forget those spring snowbanks from 2013! Ah well, ‘guess we’ll weather the weather, whether we like it or not 😉 Summer is nice, but it’s just not the same as spelling “Spring” with Christmas garland in the snow!

deck the yard with hearts of yarn-y ♥ Fa-la-la-la-laaa…

3 knit hearts in tree

A couple of weeks ago, our entire landscape was one month into hibernation and knee-deep in snow—true story 🙂 Oh, but now look… L@@K at the grass and all that snow that is no longer there! This weekend is winter solstice (our shortest day = 7 hours and 25 minutes, down from 17 hours at summer solstice) and it’s actually beginning to look a lot like springtime… everywhere we go! 😉

Could this be global warming?

Skies have been fairly overcast and what’s left of the snow is quite icy. But all the mild weather has been great for hearty backyard photo shoots! So that’s what I did… looked for blue skies and did some hearty backyard yarn bombing 🙂

My yarn bombing props include:
— the ethereal-looking heart garland from this post
— the felted-loop-linky heart garland (diy to come)
— heart-felted Bramble♥tini loop ornaments from this post
— lacy white heart-shaped dishcloth (knitting pattern to be published in 2015)
— strands of garland knit from Bernat Boa and SRK Baby Monkey yarns
— unemployed snow shovel/broom, plus in-demand Christmas lights
— and last, but not least… my “black Friday” sack of Knit Picks yarn!!!

hearty last days of summer… the sequel ♥

summer sweetie ❤ flowers & knit birdie

Our last days of summer ended on a particularly sun-shiny note after an unexpected September snow storm, which left us feeling more like fall. The thermometer bounced back after that, soaring just shy of 30ºC/86º F until cooling off again today. But anything can happen when it comes to weather! And it could have been worse, after all. It could have felt like winter!!!

Just a few hours south in Calgary, it indeed looked and felt like winter. The white stuff fell heavy, over there. And caused much havoc with snowbanks, snapped tree branches and power outages 😦 Fortunately for us, the snow was a mere healthy dusting and shovels stayed stored in the garage. We swapped summer wear for sweaters and got the furnace all fired-up to chase the chill out of the house… But then summer came back… just like “summer the sequel” 🙂

Seizing the moment, I grabbed the camera with a few handknit props and headed outside for another “nutty knitting neighbour” backyard photo shoot! The scene of our leafy green tree foliage and tall, golden grass with autumn-coloured field in the background was begging to be yarn bombed! So out came the lawn mower, a string of hearty garland and my own little birdie/floral prototypes. Don’t you just love the ethereal effect of the yarn tails alongside the tall, golden grass? … swaying gently in the pre-autumn breeze 🙂

Coming up, I’ll be using these hearts to make a heart garland! Would you like to knit your own heart garland for Christmas, Valentines, birthdays, or any occasion? You can get a head start, by knitting a hearty handful of SweetieKNITHearts and/or Brambletini Hearts in your choice of colour and needle size. Use FELTABLE WOOL only, leaving extra-long tails of approximately 45 cms/18 inches. I’ll be back soon with the next step.

Wishing you a hearty harvest for fall   Jackie
