October 31st

Benjamin Cho Fall 2007 Collection

Okay, so it’s past the stroke of October… sighhh… I’ve missed the calendar mark, again. But life’s battles continue and I’m determined (come Hell or high water) to post this mixed bag o’ treats via WordPress, YouTube and facebook!

Let’s begin with Pete’s pOwerful post @ Revelation310 “Rage Against the Machine” … Oh wOw… Have you noticed how the entire world’s been spinning freakishly out of control? Here in Canada, useless Soros puppeticians bent on destroying Canada took the helm 3 yrs ago. Yup, way back when life still seemed “normal” :-/ Hope to change that in the 2019 election?!? Well anyhoo… Pete’s article makes Biblically sound sense to me. Do you agree?

Please also enjoy the bountiful harvest of posts from my blog’s fb page. Hopefully something for everyone, including stylishly crafty foodish fun and Nepal’s scariest waterfall highway!

One Hundred Percent” @ Narrow is The Way Ministries and Pastor Charles Lawson’s sermon (below) are about the afterlife… Hell is a real place and my heart’s intent is to scare the Hell out of you so that you don’t end up there! ❤

Coming up next time, I’ll finally fill you in on the project that’s been my focus apart from the blog. And of course, more of that wild ‘n wacky weather of ours 😉

Well okay… here’s a link for
my “top secret” project
🙂

Hello & Welcome to my 62nd episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is Easter ❤

Yup… a bit late :-/

In my defense, there’s been a major distraction… An overwhelmingly welcome distraction, which I’ll soon be blogging about!!! 😀

For now, this Easter post is running “late” (according to the calendar date) and I need to hop to it 😉 Always better a bit late than never at all, right?!? …hmmm…

Please enjoy the show, including christian comedian Tim Hawkins’ version of the classic AMAZING GRACE hymn with a twist of classic EAGLES band ❤

Hello & Welcome to my 58th episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is a snowy bit of fibrous fun 😍

Oh how I love to watch snow melt—especially after being surrounded by it since November. Friday’s mild temperatures melted a lot of snow, so I grabbed a few colourful props and ran outside to enjoy the show! Yup… gotta ❤ a good ol’ fibrously fun backyard yarn-bombing photo shoot 🙂 Later that night, a storm blew into town and re-blanketed us in several inches of white :-/ But oh well, it was fun while it lasted…

The golfing clown is a Jean Greenhow design. This half-knitted WIP of mine has been cooped up in the back of my yarn closet for … gulp … years! Really wanna/oughta/gotta get around to finishing that guy! Fun to take him out to play in the snow, though! 😉 Want to try this at home? M’ Snow Lady’s face uses a pink Bramble❤️TINI for her nose and 2 green Hearty Links with Felted Loops for eyes and mouth 🙂

Hello & Welcome to my 51st episode of the
KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is a pretty petaled blog by one of the sweetest bloggers you ever will read 🙂

With a mere 53 followers, I’m thinking Myra’s blog is one of the best kept secret treasures on WordPress! It was about this time last year when she found my blog and our friendship just blossomed from there ❤ Yup, there’s definitely something special about Myra! Perhaps it’s the charm of her english as a second language, or her nearly 80-year sense of gracious strength and determination, or her lovingly humble way with words… Whatever it is, she’s got it! Visit her blog and you’ll likely agree 🙂

So now at nearly 80 years of age, Myra has taken up blogging as a way of introducing her english version of “Everlasting Blossoms & Butterflies” (first published in Taiwan, 2011). Her story is a true family memoir, beginning about 100 years ago when her mom was a young girl in early 1900’s China. The story’s focus is about how her mom’s “Everlasting Blossoms” floral crochet designs came to be.

Click here to read Myra’s first blog post

Your mesmerized self will be glad you did! 🙂

our teething sweetheart niece biting on a heart-shaped baking dishHello & Welcome to my 39th episode of the KWH iPad Show! But first, I’d like to introduce you to our youngest great-niece (hubby’s brother’s son’s daughter). Hmmm… looks like our lil’ teething sweetheart is trying to eat her momma’s baking-dish-heart out 😉

Today… is Wednesday!
2 weeks ’til Christmas 🙂
246 days since my iMac died 😦
20 years of living happily married after ❤

Today… I find loving comfort
in holding
my dear husband near 🙂

Today… I remain blogfully diligent
in hopes that my iPad will outwit, outlast and outplay the economic storm :-/

And today… I am blessed beyond measure
in this Christmas season, by the everlasting light of my Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ—who left His throne in Heaven to be born of a virgin, then put to death and resurrected… conquering death. All this, for the sake of His true love for sinful souls, like me… And now, all who trust in Him will be set free!

Yes today…
this triumphant baby
 Jesus
lives and reigns in my heart!
He is the reason life is worth living,
and He is my joyous reason for
celebrating this Christmas season ❤

hate

My defiance takes a different note,

“They” want me to fear

So I will choose love not hate,

For only love casts out fear.

“They” want to manipulate my mind just as they manipulated the killers.

No go! I have free choice, I choose good, not evil.

“They” want me to cower, to become afraid to voice my own faith,

I choose instead to confirm my faith in a God of love,

The only one able to deal with “them”.

“They” cannot be “bombed out of existence”

Like the hydra “they” will only grow more heads.

Like chemo or radiation, that may give temporary reprieve, (while creating devastation) but it will not destroy the “stem cells”.

The real perpetrators lurk unseen in the shadows and the “cancer” will spread and grow again,

We see only the pawns in their diabolical power game.

Yet I will sing,

Today’s feature is Thanksgiving and
a few things that I’m thankful for 🙂

This weekend is
“Thanksgiving” in Canada!

One day of thanks is good…
One 3-day long-weekend is grand…
But with millions of moments and
cherished memories along life’s way…
I’d say the calendar overflows with
an abundance of joy to fill our hearts
with thankfulness on ANY given day!
This is true, even on a “bad” day!
Wouldn’t you say?
Now looking at this photo of my ol’ iMac
that died 6 months ago, I’m ever-thankful
for my iPad that has kept me blogging
all these months—
just you, me & my iPad

So this year…

I’m thankful for my husband’s precious prescription of HPP medicine and the doctors/researchers who worked all these years to give us hope for a healthier tomorrow! Plus, so thankful we could visit family en route to picking up the first month’s prescription! 🙂 ❤
&
I’m thankful to live in a peaceful nation where individual rights for freedom of speech, politics and religion are valued, respected and encouraged!
&
I’m thankful for unobstructed
sunset views from our own backyard!
&
I’m thankful for YOU ❤
This blog would be a lonely cyber-place
without all of you guys stopping by!

the KWH iPad Show #19 💜 friendly fibre & neighbourly farewell

Hello & Welcome
to my 19th episode of the
KWH iPad Show!

Today’s feature is fibre-friendly
fondness for neighbourly kindness 🙂

.

knitting, needles & yarn from Sylvia

Hey… remember a few weeks ago, when our neighbour surprised me with a bagful of assorted yarn? Well, now look!

Another neighbour (an especially friendly clerk from our local Safeway store) has knit a red vest/slipper set and packed it in a canvas “Safeway” shopping bag with 3 pairs of 5 mm straight knitting needles, plus 3 big balls of gold/pink fuzzy-tufty fashion yarn! Such a sweet surprise 🙂 The canvas bag will be a handy tote for knitting projects. But what would you suggest to knit with yarn like this? I’m not sure what to make from it…

Yarn is always fun 🙂

<br />

snow cherub

But then, this past weekend was moving day for our dear “snow angel” neighbour Randy. Now their house is empty and I’m feeling a bit sad. Randy cared about his neighbours and was like a staple in the community 🙂 We’re blessed to have known him and very thankful for his diligent effort to clear the snow from several neighbouring driveways, including ours. There were days when the snow just kept coming… and so did Randy—frequently ploughing our place 2-3 times in one day!!! The weather was harsh, but Randy’s heart was warm. He knew hubby was on crutches and I’d be the one shovelling. So he definitely helped make our winters more bearable! Shovelling is okay and can even be fun (fresh air, sniffling neighbourly interaction, frozen faces, etc.). But y’know it can really cut into my knitting time 😉 So instead, it was my pleasure to knit special gifts of appreciation ❤

snowy sunsets ❤ #10

Now those days are gone… But lo and behold, look what I found! A snowful blast-from-the-past video of the last time Randy ploughed our driveway (dated March 2nd, 2015). How amazing for it to have survived all these months on my iPad! Who could have know that this glimpse of him in action would bid a fitting farewell… We’ll miss seeing them around the neighbourhood, but that’s life… God bless Randy and his wife in their new home ❤

Shamrockin’ Spring Bracelet ♥ Why wait ’till spring?!?

.
Hey there and happy almost-first-day-of SPRING and St. Patrick’s Day!
For all you crafty, wool-luvin’ knitters who may possibly be wondering
about that Shamrockin’ Spring Bracelet “how to” I promised to you in
my last post… I’ve been busy preparing the graphics/instructions for that!
Oh but… they’re not yet quite ready for your public knitting pleasure :-/

Now begging your pardon, but this project has been delayed due to the early
arrival of mild, spring-like temperatures and rapidly melting snow in our area…
Yup, the rapid melting of snow that’s been blanketing us since November!!!

Unfortunately, this all means I’ve missed my target posting date 😦
Honestly, though, it can be a bit tough to keep my knitting nose to the
blogful grindstone with all this pleasant early spring weather going on!

Fortunately, this all reminds me of when my dad used to say, “Do it now! Why wait ’till spring?”
That’s a good memory, for me 🙂 And to this day, those words have remained in my heart…
Especially with St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, followed by the date of dad’s last day on earth ♥
I don’t believe luck has anything to do with anything, though would have liked the chance to
have told my dear ol’ dad how his life measured 7 decades + 7 years + 7 months + 7 days long…

Anyhoo…
Thanks for waiting! I’ll be sure to do it now and not wait ’till spring!
To get started now (whilst you wait, sorry) please visit my previous post.
It  describes what you can do to start Shamrockin’ right now.

Does your wardrobe need a little heart?

In last week’s post, I demonstrated how to make hearty home decor accents that could be used as: woolerfully festive seasonal garlands… wraps for around dinner napkins/candles and special occasion decor… adornment for your book lovin’ shelves or whatever item/space you love!

Today’s post has a nice ring to it, too (plus matching bracelets)! It’s a hearty form of accessorize with a warm ‘n fuzzy “bling” that will knit-erally have you wearing your heart on your sleeve … errrm, so to speak 😉

Okay, time for accessorizing!

Begin by downloading my Sweetie♥KNIT♥Heart FREE knitting pattern. Click HERE for the original post. You can also view, follow and save my designs to your favourites via Ravelry and Craftsy. Next, knit the hearts from feltable wool and appropriately sized knitting needles. See “how to” PDF instructions (below) for felting the loopy straps. Be sure to leave extra-long tails and check for fit while felting, since the felting process causes wool fibres to shrink/matt and lose the ability to stretch.

.

how to make hearty links with felted loops

RING:
US size 3 / 3 mm needles
approximately 6.5 feet / 2 m wool
approximately 12″ / 30 cms yarn tail length for felting
finished strap length: approximately 2.5″ – 2.75″ / 6.25 – 7 cms

BRACELET — single strap:
US size 3 / 3 mm needles
approximately 9 feet / 2.75 m wool
approximately 2.5 feet / .75 m yarn tail length for felting
finished strap length: approximately 8 inches / 20 cms

BRACELET — double strap:
US size 6 / 4 mm needles
approximately 18 feet / 5.5 m double-strand wool
(aka 2 x 9 feet / 2 x 2.75 m)
approximately 2.5 feet / .75 m yarn tail length for felting
finished strap length: approximately 8 inches / 20 cms

NOTE:
knitting double-strand (two strands together as one) gives you the option
for felting two loopy bracelet straps (as pictured), or a single, thicker strap.

the Heart of Christmas ♥ hearty handknit decorations

close-up of stair railing decorated with handknit hearts

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Wishing you a merrily heartfelt Christmas and a happily decorated staircase! We don’t have a Christmas tree. What we do have is a lot of yarn and handknit heart decorations. And since decorating the staircase was so much fun last year, I thought it might be fun to do it again this year 🙂 Hmmm… could this be the start of a new tradition?!? How many years does it take to build a tradition?

Anyway, yarn is always fun to play around with and take photos of—before and/or after it is knit up 🙂 As you may recall, these are the same backyard photo props from last week’s “deck the yard with hearts of yarn-y” post. Yup… lots of good, clean, indoor/outdoor hearty yarn-bombing fun going on around here! Stay tuned to this blog for more details on making your own hearty “how to’s” in 2015!

May your heart overflow with
love, joy, happiness and peace…
at Christmas time and
throughout the new year.

Merry Christmas! ♥ Jackie

Happy Anniversary ♥ December 9th… and they lived happily ever after

E&J wedding December 9th, 1995
E&J wedding December 9th, 1995

Our wedding day
December 9th, 1995

Today is a bit of a detour from the wool-hearty post I had originally planned. On account of yesterday being our 19th wedding anniversary and my wonderful hubby surprising me (again), this time with photos on fb. This led to an outpouring of well-wishes and fond memories… shared now, here with you!

We were married on a sun-blustery winter day, 19 years ago on December 9th, 1995. A major snow storm had blasted through town—leaving the church parking lot off limits and our wedding day turned all around. Highways were closed. Out-of-town guest’s flights were delayed. No one could make it to the rehearsal dinner and in-laws were welcomed with curlers in my hair. A quilt draped across my shoulders was all that would fit atop my mom’s 38-year-old pouffe gown. Wedding decorations were a bit of a disaster, too. But oh thank Goodness… for it was December and the church was already decorated for Christmas 🙂

As you may imagine, it was the best day of my (our) life! Aside from one major hitch, none of the rest mattered. And the weather this week? Mild temperatures have been melting the snow 🙂 Then “just for us” yesterday, God the Creator of Heaven and Earth painted our 19th anniversary day sky with another spectacular sunset glow ♥

having a great time!

We’re celebrating
our true north
strong & free with
food, music and
awesome sunsets…
For me, these are
just a few simple
pleasures that make
this nation great 🙂
My hope for you is
to enjoy these too!

For dinner, we enjoyed Alberta-grown Canadian beef tenderloin with veggies. There was a pint of Samuel Adams amber beer for the head chef and a glass of Apothic Merlot from California for me.

To whet your knitting appetite, the food platter is pictured upon a patriotic pair of prototype place mats 🙂 These are a taste of what’s been on my designing needles. They’re heart-shaped appetizer props, offering you a glimpse of my knitting patterns still to come 🙂

As well, the dinner plates are hand-crafted
by Lakeside Pottery in Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, Canada.

Happy 4th of July, to our American next-door neighbours 🙂
And happy Canada Day to all who call our diverse-yet-peaceful nation “home” ❤ Jackie

my Socks by Beehive knitting pattern booklet & leftover wool

The “my Socks” knitting
pattern booklet by Beehive
… heartfully framed with
yarn-fully leftover wool from
my dear ol’ dad’s socks ♥.

Many years ago when I was first learning to knit, I made my dad a pair of socks from this Beehive knitting pattern booklet. That was my first ever pair of hand-knit socks. The pattern was basic. The yarn was a lovely wool in charcoal grey. And my dad loved wearing them 🙂

Several years passed before trying my hand at knitting a second pair of socks—this time for my Uncle Pete. Only then did I realize that my dear ol’ dad had been darning those old socks with nary a peep of complaint… sigh… And just look at all the leftover yarn I could’ve, would’ve (should’ve) mended them with, for him!

Alas, he wears them no more—doesn’t need ’em in Heaven. But that was my daaaad… What a guy!

Happy Father’s Day ♥ Jackie

You might think your mom is invincible…
Your mom might feel like she is invisible…
Have you noticed your mother today?

Both our mothers live far away…
But if we could, we’d hug them today!

a flag for Flaherty ❤

Canada—and indeed the world—needs
many more people like Jim Flaherty.
Yet today, we of Canada are
sadly mournful of his passing.

❤  ❤  ❤

Jim Flaherty was a man of integrity, honour, wisdom, heartfelt contentment and joy… He was a guy who wore green ties and smiled from his heart. It was his inner-smile that overflowed across his face.

Jim Flaherty was a politician…
He was Canada’s Chief Finance Minister and Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s trusted right-hand man.

So why the heck am I so sad?
Why are we all so sad?
We were sad to see him retire…
And now, just 3 weeks later?
We are sad to know he’s gone
.

Jim Flaherty was an honourable politician… He had a flair for steadfast consistency, which helped straighten and strengthen our country’s financial path. This, even while other economies began to crumble. “Stay the course”, he’d always say. And the truth of those words gave us hope for Canada’s financial future. Hope that tomorrow would be okay.

Jim Flaherty was no average politician…
He served his political post with proficiency and loved his country like family. His job seemed a labour of love. He loved all of us, and we loved him too. Our comfort now, however, is in knowing that he really can finally see what heaven looks like!

 RIP Jim Flaherty… ❤ Jackie

how to make Sweetie♥KNIT♥Heart Valentine Rings

What does the NFL Super Bowl XLVIII…
the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia…
and Valentine’s Day have in common?

They all have rings and they’re all coming up on the calendar!

.

Sunday February 2nd (aka “groundhog day“… can you beLIEVE it’s already February?!?) is Super Bowl XLVIII, with Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos. My husband is a huge sports fan, so he’ll definitely be watching. And me? My plan as usual, having knit my way through several years of televised sports since marrying that wonderful man, is to “watch” the game with him! 😉 My goal is to finish up some samples for my upcoming set of heart-shaped knitting patterns! How about you? Are you ready for some football? Do you have any particular knitting project planned for your “super bowl party” sports/knitting event? Did you know that whoever wins the Super Bowl will get a ring? But there’s no reason why NFL football players should be the only ones to sport a little bling, right?!? Here’s how you can make some Sweetie♥Heart ring/bracelet “bling” of your own! 🙂

To begin, you’ll need to download my Sweetie♥KNIT♥Heart FREE knitting pattern. Click HERE to find the original post. It is also available via Craftsy and Ravelry. Along with the pattern, you’ll need small amounts of feltable wool yarn and appropriately sized knitting needles. Details for yarn/needles I used in making my sample ring/bracelet sets pictured above are as follows:

Patons Classic Worsted 100% Virgin Wool, 3-ply (PURPLISH-RED #209)
Herrschners Worsted 100% New Wool, 3-ply (DEEP PURPLE)
— Herrschners Worsted 100% New Wool also pictured with gloves (LAVENDER) —

RING:
US size 3 / 3 mm needles
approximately 4 feet / 1.25 m yarn

BRACELET:
US size 6 / 4 mm needles
approximately 12 feet / 3.7 m double-strand yarn
(= 2 x 6 feet / 2 x 1.85 m)

Knit Picks Palette Fingering 100% wool, 2-ply (PIMENTO)

RING:
US size 1 / 2.25 mm needles
approximately 3 feet / 1 m yarn

BRACELET:
US size 3-4 / 3-4 mm needles
approximately 8-12 feet / 2.5-3 m double-strand yarn
(= 2 x 4-6 feet / 2 x 1.25-1.5 m)

Basic Instruction:

  • Cast on using the Longtail CO method.
  • Knit the ring’s heart “gemstone” with a single strand of yarn.
Knit the bracelet’s heart “gemstone” with a double-strand of yarn.
  • Leave approximately 6″ / 16 cms yarn tail lengths per ring for felting.
Leave approximately 10-12″ / 25-30 cms yarn tail lengths per bracelet for felting.
NOTE:  rings are knit single-strand, so you’ll need to attach an additional strand before felting the bands.
  • Weave ends from centre B&T toward side edges of the heart. This will stabilize the position of the heart “gemstone” and keep it from flopping around. Do this before splicing and felting the band.
  • Splice the tails before wetting and rubbing into felted bands. Watch in amazement, as all the yarn tail ends vanish… disappearing like magic! 🙂
For further felting info, check out my other posts featuring felted bands ‘n bits…

TIP:  wearing the item whilst rubbing/felting the band will help achieve the perfect fit. For “child-size” rings, try slipping the band around a similarly sized knitting needle or other object before felting.

As always, you are welcome to gift my copyrighted original designs to your heart’s content. But please contact me first, before making any effort to sell finished items from any of my copyrighted designs. It’s more fun being connected! And besides, I am very curious about you 🙂

Hope all this bling-a-ling-a-ring felts like fun for you! ♥ Jackie
