Christmas Eve 2016 treats

Merry Christmas EVERYone! Wow, what a year 2018 has been… Only 3 (now 4) published blog posts, ‘though I’ve had plenty to say (accumulating more incomplete draft posts than ever before 🤔

Now for this post, I wanted to link a photo with my last year’s Christmas decor post. And suddenly, there it was. A box of fresh-baked shortbread from our next-door neighbours—uploaded 2 years ago to my WP media folder 😎 What could make it more perfect? We exchanged Christmas cookies again today 😍

Life’s funny like that, isn’t it? Sharing is caring and with crumbs to spare! Yup, ’tis better to give than receive… And ’tis better to realize we have what we need… And ’tis no use chasing our “wants” lists… ’cause have you seen those things? They’re endless! Contentment, now that’s something worth wanting!

‘Twas knit-erally a year later… Christmas 2016 staircase decor just in time for Christmas 2017 🎄🎶🎉🎁😍

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

how to make a heartfelted Bramble❤tini loop ornament ||| Knitting With HeartWell it’s beginning to look a lot like last year’s Christmas, now that my fibrously festive decor pics are finally packaged into a presentable post… HA! Why does time always fly so fast?!?

Anyhoo… holding an iPad completely still for stills can be a bit of a challenge. So in today’s photo gallery, I’ve included one especially blurred shot to emphasizes the crAZy of my logic to share Christmas photos a year late …LoL… But OhhhHo boy… really gotta get cracking on THIS year’s decorating! Family’s coming to visit from Manitoba and it’s gonna be extra fun… ‘though may need a Christmas miracle to get it all done!

‘Twas last Christmas when my nimble knitting fingers stitched the first fleecy prototype for my upcoming “It’s ALL about Jesus” mosaic knitting pattern design. I’d hoped to have it published by now, but these things take time. For now, I’m extremely thankful to have my ol’ iMac back and slowly-yet-surely moving forward with pattern layout preparations! Currently stitching my 4th sample—see lovely group shot of em’ all laid flat on a striped bath towel “blocking mat” 😉

Do you believe Christmas (and life in general) is all about Jesus? It truly warms my heart and soothes my soul to knit such comforting words ❤

Feel free to click the following photos and climb my stairway decor from Christmas past… 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016… Hope you’ll also enjoy the fireside Christmas music video and/or meaningful message from one of my favourite preachers,  Pastor Charles Lawson 🙂

Flight Knits Carry-On WIP #2

Hello & Welcome to my 56th episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is my knitterly version of Clement Clarke Moore’s “Twas the night before Christmas” poem—inspired by my sack of incomplete Christmas decorations, as I race to finish in time for the 25th! 🙂

‘Twas the weekend before Christmas,
when all through the house…
Not a project was finished,
not even a gift knit for my spouse!

The incomplete stitches were
layed by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas’
elf-help team soon would be there…

My needles were nestled
all snug in their yarn webs,
While visions of sweet FO’s
danced in my head.

And hubby in his sports jersey,
and I with my knitting lap,
Had just settled in for a long evening
of Hockey Night in Canada on tap.

Then away with my pics to the
web’s window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the iPad and threw
open the photo editing app,

And sprang to my blog,
to WordPress gave a whistle,
And away the pics flew
like the down of a thistle.

And I whistled, and shouted,
and called them by name…

Now Dasher! now Dancer!
now Prancer and Vixen!
On Comet! On Cupid!
on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the blog!
there’s no time to crawl!
Now dash away!
Dash away! Dash away all!

Visions of Christmas Past- Redux via TheLifeProject

Christmas gift with heart & yarn embellishment

December is here and Christmas is near… hallelujah!
So let’s crank the Christmas carols and get this festive month started, shall we?

Today’s reblog was inspired by Don @ The Life Project—just one of the many, many WordPress blogs I love yet never read enough of :-/ Don’s thought provoking blog posts normally focus on insightful Bible study. In today’s post, he decks the Victorian era halls with a glimpse back to when life seemed simpler, people connected without the internet and everyday heirloom gifts/decor were mostly handmade 🙂 Totally my kind of fun! Add to that a charming on-screen vision of Christmas past via G.A. Smith’s “Santa Clause” (1898) silent film and (although my yarny hands are holding knitting needles) you could even say I’m hooked! 😉

Wishing a happy December to all,
and to all a heartily wholesome night! ❤ Jackie

TLP

The Christmas season is upon us, and even I can’t put it off any longer! I thought that it might be fun to take a look at it from two different points of view, looking back and looking forward.  Today, let’s look back…

For me, the notion of Christmas in the Victorian era is a great one; it somehow seems so innocent and wholesome.  I don’t know why this is, maybe I’m just a sucker for that period, but somehow things just seem more simple.  My honest guess is that this would amuse the people who lived then, but what the heck, let’s deck the halls!

Of course you would have to start out with your Christmas cards, this was the era that invented them, and since internet connections weren’t that great in those days, everyone would actually write them and send them in the mail!

OK, try to picture this:…

#55 💜 O’ snOwy night & day pics… plus music video… O’ Holy Night by Home Free

the KWH iPad Show logo

Hello & Welcome to my 55th episode of the KWH iPad Show! Today’s feature is our recent snowfall 🙂

Ooooh… the snowy night & day scene outside our front door looks divine! Fresh flakes are just snooow pretty, aren’t they? And especially the first snowfall of fresh flakes! That’s why my trusty iPad & I always try to pixelate ’em asap upon arrival 🙂

These photos are actually our second snowfall of the season! The first was early October, way back when the trees still had all their green leaves!!! Much earlier than I’d have liked, albeit quite a pretty sight! I’m still in the process of processing all those photos. Posting these first will knock my flakes out of blogful order, but that’s snOw’kay 😉

Now nearing the end of November with a month ’til Christmas, it’s great to have snow! Snow helps get ya into the Christmas spirit and helps get my nimble Christmas knitting fingers into gear! 🙂

Hope it’s snowing well wherever you are! 😉

Today’s feature is our decorated staircase…

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!

stitch markers and crochet snowflakes from Angela

me at the Apple Store

Well here we are, one week past Christmas and finally posting my decorated staircase … LoL … Honestly, some people really ought to get their Christmas knitting act together and start stitching as soon as the stores start their seasonal displays!!! Ah well, it’s all fun and I’m not feeling a bit foolish for posting ’em late 😉 Far better to be squeeking-in with this post before the stroke of New Year’s, than suffer the hang-over of waiting ’til next year!

Anyhoo…

This year’s Christmas staircase theme colours include: red, green and white with spindles wrapped in icy blue eyelash yarn. The tree is one ball each of fleece/eyelash yarn. The large heart on the tree is red eyelash yarn…. Gotta say, I ❤ that eyelash yarn! These were part of my birthday yarn stash purchase from Herrschners. The candles are red crochet (wedding gift) doilies, with flames knit of fancy-fluffy-puffy golden yarn from a friend. The various garlands are knit from Bernat Boa, Lily Crafter’s Cotton (discontinued) and Bernat Christmas Tinsel worsted cotton… Ooooh, plus one furry strip of Baby Monkey ultra-soft yarn… Adorning tree ornaments include: 1 green wool Heartfelted Bramble♥tini Loop Ornament + 2 red/white fleece Sweetie♥Knit♥Hearts + 5 green wool Hearty Links with Felted Loops + 2 i-Cord candy canes. The tree topper ribbon is from an embellished Ferrero Rocher gift pack. That white loopy thing below the ribbon is just me playing with plarn (plastic yarn)—spun on my drop spindle.

And finally… the lovely crochet snowflakes and charmed stitch markers (also pictured separately from last year’s post) were gifted to me last Christmas from Angela aka “Wish I Were Stitching” WP blog… Thanks again, Angela ❤

Then today, technically ending the year off right, we popped into our nearest Apple Store and bought a much needed flash drive… It’s charging now! And am I ever looking forward to unloading my overstuffed iPad of nearly 9 months worth of blogging photos!!!

Merry Christmas Morning,

everyone!

For the past couple of years—see Christmas Day 2013 & 2014—I’ve been decorating our staircase (in lieu of the Christmas tree we don’t have), then posting photos of my festive yarn bombing decor to the blog on Christmas Day 🙂

That tradition continues this year, although it is running a bit late… :-/ I’ll have photos for my next blog post!

Ah well, inspiration can sometimes take time… while the calendar waits for no one. Add to that my “procraftinator” tendencies and you get yarnful knotty-ness that will soon be nice 🙂

And speaking of knots…

Did you know there’s a group on Ravelry that actually looks for and forward to untangling “opportunities” with yarny messes? Yup, you read that correctly!

Hello & Welcome
to my 32nd episode of the

Today’s feature is
all I want for Christmas 🙂

This snowy winter wonderland’s photographer is our sister Laura.
The tasty homemade cherry jam, alongside stylishly crafted handmade
house, bar and cupcake soaps are the creations of our sister Lisa.
Thanks so much, we love you dearly ❤ and thank God for all our family!

♥ ♥ ♥

All I want for Christmas is ewe T-Shirts & Hoodies - RedBubble.com

Every year it’s the same thing…
all I ever really want for Christmas
… is YOU 🙂

Well to be honest, I also really want
… more skeins from EWE 😉

And after 3/4 year blogging
with just you, me & my iPad
It comes as no surprise that
what I’d also really want is to
finally replace my ol’ iMac !!!

But when it comes right down to it,
all I really ever want for Christmas is
to be of good cheer, in good health
and know family goodness is near 🙂

Now 3 months since beginning
treatment for my husband’s HPP,
we thank God for hearing our prayers
and can whole-heartedly say that
better
health is progressing our way 🙂

Plus… there is one fine family benefit,
which helps compensate for those
periodic plane rides to see doctors…
That’s because hubby gets to see his
sisters who live nearby those doctors…
Sweet sisters who send him home with
love
and homemade family goodness
from their hearts to our home ❤

So now, you tell me…
What do you really want

for Christmas, this year?

Time, Heart, Behavior imagegratitude heart image

Today… is Wednesday!
2 weeks ’til Christmas 🙂
246 days since my iMac died 😦
20 years of living happily married after ❤

Today… I find loving comfort
in holding
my dear husband near 🙂

Today… I remain blogfully diligent
in hopes that my iPad will outwit, outlast and outplay the economic storm :-/

And today… I am blessed beyond measure
in this Christmas season, by the everlasting light of my Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ—who left His throne in Heaven to be born of a virgin, then put to death and resurrected… conquering death. All this, for the sake of His true love for sinful souls, like me… And now, all who trust in Him will be set free!

Yes today…
this triumphant baby
 Jesus
lives and reigns in my heart!
He is the reason life is worth living,
and He is my joyous reason for
celebrating this Christmas season ❤

how to make Hearty Links with Felted Loops . . . together with another fun visit from the Orples ♥

Well it’s been a while, since that summery September post when I first mentioned my plans to be back “soon” with this next step to making hearty garland felted loop links. Now four ( 4!!! ) months later, I do hope you think it was worth the wait… ?

Diagram: how to make hearty links with felted loops

Time has flown by! But where did it go?!?

It might be hibernating under the snow, although a lot of time has been spent on recent software upgrade learning curves. Oh, and that inbox of mine… Time always seems to lose track of itself when it gets together with my blogfully delightful, yet utterly inbox-icating electronic messaging centre.

Time well spent 😉

My timing might be a bit sheepish, although 2015 is the year of sheep 😉 As well, these hearty felted loopy links are created from sheep’s wool! So now, here it finally is! In time for Valentine’s Day and months ahead of the fibrously hectic Christmas projects rush… Yay!!! Click image to view enlarged PDF instructions.

Oh, and speaking of flying…

Have you met our friendly neighbourhood Orples? They popped by for a third visit to my blog, this week. So fun! Here are links to their first, second and third visits. You might want to visit them and see what all the fun is about 🙂

Happy “100th blog post” New Year ♥

door_KWH9049

Laugh and the world laughs with you…
Blog a few years, until your 100th post
coincides with New Year’s celebrations
and the whole world parties 😉
. . . Cheers! . . .

Happy New Year!
Thanks for connecting with me
and
WELCOME to my 100th post

Yup, this little milestone post of mine has somehow managed to coincide with the world-wide party celebration of the year! How’s that for timing? It merely took nearly 3 years to get here… lol … 18 posts during my first (super-timid me) year + 37 posts in 2013 (when I began to relax) + 45 posts for 2014 (counting this one)… And now looking ahead to 2015 with blogful hopes of possibly doubling that count by the end of the year. Can she do it? There’s bound to be at least another 100 posts in me, so let’s hope!!!

stitch markers and crochet snowflakes from AngelaNow for the yarn party, which is already underway…

A few days before Christmas, we received a pretty little package in the post. It was from Singapore, where Angela aka Pretty Little Things In A Box blogs about crafts. The parcel was such a pleasant surprise, including: 8 handmade stitch markers + 9 crocheted red/white/green snowflake ornaments with heart-shaped buttons and festive ribbon 🙂 Thank you so much, Angela ♥ These lovely little treasures make a pretty little Christmas tree, too—see photo 🙂

hand-knit hat from PatOur neighbour, Pat, also learned to knit this past summer. And she’s been knitting “all the things” ever since… Pretty sure everyone she knows got a handknit hat for Christmas, this year 😉 She even knit a lovely purple wool slouchy hat with loom-flowers for me, accompanied by a sweet sack of Christmas shortbread! I hung them with care, for photos on our Christmas decorated stairs. But alas, the heart I knit for her got away without photos…

tree of Oilers heart dishcloths in the snowAside from colour, though, it was the same heart-shaped pattern that I knit for Randy (our “snow angel” retired NHL linesman now realtor neighbour extraordinaire). He clears our driveway whenever it snows. So in appreciation, I knit him half a dozen heart-shaped dishcloths in “Edmonton Oiler” colours (presuming the Oilers to be his favourite hockey team). But oops… as an NHL professional, his team preference is unbiased—duhhh. Oh well, at least the orange cotton I ordered on “Black Friday” turned out to be the perfect shade and arrived in time to knit them. I took them outside for a photo shoot while still damp from blocking and the hearts quickly froze. It cracked me up—seeing all those frozen hearts hanging from our leafless tree … teehee … What else did I expect at -20ºC/-4ºF?!? 😉

Ohhh… and so nice to see that the orples have been by again! I hear they’re itching to learn stitching. So let’s all get together and knit one day real soon! 🙂

Wishing you the happiest of New Years in 2015 ♥ Jackie

the Heart of Christmas ♥ hearty handknit decorations

close-up of stair railing decorated with handknit hearts

Wishing you a merrily heartfelt Christmas and a happily decorated staircase! We don’t have a Christmas tree. What we do have is a lot of yarn and handknit heart decorations. And since decorating the staircase was so much fun last year, I thought it might be fun to do it again this year 🙂 Hmmm… could this be the start of a new tradition?!? How many years does it take to build a tradition?

Anyway, yarn is always fun to play around with and take photos of—before and/or after it is knit up 🙂 As you may recall, these are the same backyard photo props from last week’s “deck the yard with hearts of yarn-y” post. Yup… lots of good, clean, indoor/outdoor hearty yarn-bombing fun going on around here! Stay tuned to this blog for more details on making your own hearty “how to’s” in 2015!

May your heart overflow with
love, joy, happiness and peace…
at Christmas time and
throughout the new year.

Merry Christmas! ♥ Jackie

3 knit hearts in tree

A couple of weeks ago, our entire landscape was one month into hibernation and knee-deep in snow—true story 🙂 Oh, but now look… L@@K at the grass and all that snow that is no longer there! This weekend is winter solstice (our shortest day = 7 hours and 25 minutes, down from 17 hours at summer solstice) and it’s actually beginning to look a lot like springtime… everywhere we go! 😉

Could this be global warming?

Skies have been fairly overcast and what’s left of the snow is quite icy. But all the mild weather has been great for hearty backyard photo shoots! So that’s what I did… looked for blue skies and did some hearty backyard yarn bombing 🙂

My yarn bombing props include:
— the ethereal-looking heart garland from this post
— the felted-loop-linky heart garland (diy to come)
— heart-felted Bramble♥tini loop ornaments from this post
— lacy white heart-shaped dishcloth (knitting pattern to be published in 2015)
— strands of garland knit from Bernat Boa and SRK Baby Monkey yarns
— unemployed snow shovel/broom, plus in-demand Christmas lights
— and last, but not least… my “black Friday” sack of Knit Picks yarn!!!

December is here & Christmas is near ♥ Hallelujah

sunset on December 1st
sunset on December 1st

December days are short.
This iPad photo was captured at 4:18 pm!

December is here, and our days are getting short—now down to less than 8 hours from 17 at summer solstice… 😦 WordPress “snowflakes” are virtually floating across computer screens, once again 🙂 And outside in the real world, another 18+ cms/12+ inches of real flakes fell over the weekend.

Thank Goodness for our “snow angel” neighbour Randy, who turned out to be our mystery shoveler from my last post. The season has barely begun, yet Randy has already been by several times with his trusty snowblower! I’ve been out there too, since I really don’t mind (and at times do enjoy) a bit of snow shovelling. But when it snows every day and/or more than a few inches at a time? Well, that’s when it really starts cutting into my knitting time. So you can bet your needles that there’ll be something special on my needles again this year for Randy 😉

The orples popped by the blog to play in our snow, too 🙂 That was a pleasant surprise! Click here to meet the orples and see for yourself what characters they are. And who knows, they might come visit you too… woohoo!

Orples playing in the snow! ♥

.

.
As well, I’m still working at photos for the DIY heart garland project mentioned in this post. To get started now, go ahead and knit hearts with feltable wool, leaving extra-long 45 cm/18 inch yarn tails and I’ll return shortly with quick instructions for finishing the heart garland.

And now that it’s finally December, we can crank the Christmas tunes! Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is one of my favourite songs. Below are a few favourite versions—including Canadian musical poet Leonard Cohen (live at the Montreal Jazz Festival 2008), Canadian singer/songwriter K.D. Lang (from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics), and even a Christmas version “A Hallelujah Christmas” by Manhattan based band, Cloverton.

It might also interest you to read BuzzFeed’s 25 Things You Might Not Know About “Hallelujah” article. Did you know this song has over 300 known cover versions? Wow, that’s a lot—especially since the song took so many years to gain popularity! Nowadays, it seems that everyone wants to sing it… So go ahead and sing your heart out with these videos 🙂

a fine Sweetie ❤ Tweetie spring blog-hopping nest

hand-knit bird, nest and flowers in the snow

Hello and welcome to my spot on the SPRING BLOG-HOP!
This blog-hopping party has been organized by Pretty Little Things in a Box 🙂

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Springtime in our neighbourhood was sans-snow for one week. But the white stuff just keeps coming back. So keeping a spring in our step has been a bit back ‘n forth! Rather than brooding, though, I remembered what they say about lemonade and decided to have some fun. Because green grass is good, but sometimes life gives you snowflakes and you just gotta make snow Christmas trees—decorated with hand-knit hearts, of course! 😉 I hope spring has been a season of melted snow and green grass where you live… Tell me now, how green does your grass grow?

They also say it’s good to have one bird in the hand-made nest. The nest in the photo was finger-knitted, using some of the newspaper yarn that I’ve been spinning. The blue bird is a prototype of tweets to come. The purplish heart is my Bramble❤tini with a twist of serendipity—knit using bulky fleece yarn. The “eggs” in the nest are another pattern I will eventually publish and call “Sweetie❤Soap Snugs”. Seeing as this is Easter weekend, I figured they’d make fine spring blog-hopping Easter eggs 🙂 The solid-coloured “egg” (accidentally placed upside-down in the nest… oops!) is the felted fabric result after all the soap has washed away.

The snow tree is decorated with various Sweetie❤Knit❤Hearts, Bramble❤tini Hearts and hand-knit garland. Perhaps you remember these from my Merry ❤ Christmas post? Oh, and that blooming bouquet of felted flowers in the snow? Those were featured in a previous Mother’s Day post 🙂

So there you have it… All sorts of springy fun 🙂 These and more will eventually make their way onto this blog. For now, these photos offer a glimpse into my patterns still to come!

Thanks again to Angela @ Pretty Little Things in a Box, for organizing this first round of Spring Blog-Hopping fun 🙂 And thank YOU for hopping over from the “Sew Rosey” blog! Sew Rosey is blog #8 in a total of 9 blogs participating in today’s blog-hop party. Now then, I’m eager to hop to it and visit everyone else’s blog… See you there!

Happy Easter and thanks for hopping by! ❤ Jackie

It took a few tries, but I finally caught the
sun’s star atop our backyard Christmas tree ❤

.
O Tannenbaum  O Christmas Tree…
How lovely are your branches!
Through summer sun and winter snow…
& topped with sunset’s “star” aglow!

It’s beginning to look a lot like
the North Pole… everywhere we go!
According to the calendar, winter doesn’t start until Saturday. But when it comes to winter, we are always ahead of schedule. Saturday will also be our darkest day with nearly 17 hours of night. And while some parts of Canada might still be dreaming of a white Christmas, we never need to dream… because we are living that dream! In little more than one month, our fields have been blanketed with two-thirds (2/3) our average winter’s worth of the white stuff. Thus, we’ve already been dashing through the snow in our horsepowered-enclosed sleighs! At this rate, well……… ‘guess we’ll just let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Could this be the beginning of another record-breaking snow year?!?

And oh the weather outside has been frightful!
Weekend mild temperatures hovered near, and even above, freezing. And although this runs the risk of icy conditions from freezing rain, it’s still a nice break from our solid week or so prior to that—when we’d found ourselves living at the centre of a minus-40ºC/F Arctic deep freeze! Getting stuck at the centre of an Arctic air mass is the coldest place you ever wouldn’t want to be… And oh baby, it is COLD when temperatures go toe-to-toe with the North freakin’ Pole!!! You may have felt its chilling effects too, since this massive system of cold air actually clawed clear through to Oklahoma and Texas in the southern USA.

Meanwhile,
outside the snow is falling
and Randy comes calling “on cue” …
More often than not, we’ve missed seeing him in action
(but think he humbly prefers it that way). We’ve also lost
track of the number of times he’s been by. Still, whenever
it snows, our “snow angel” neighbour Randy makes time
to be kind and clears a few of our neighbouring driveways ❤

Randy doesn’t know it yet, but you can be sure I’m knitting something extra special just for him! More about that next time. And are you knitting Christmas gifts too? Have you seen my patterns for heart-shaped hand-knits? They make great stocking stuffers, tree decorations and more!

Have you been getting enough natural fibre in your yarn diet this month? For those who have been following along with all the fun and informative WOVEMBER “sheep’s fleece” of festivities, the answer will quite likely be “YES!” . . . Every year in November, the UK-based Wovember fibre movement is all about the wool—100% wool! Wovember is like shepherds feeding and leading the global wool-lovin’ flock through month-long celebrations of sheep and all things wool. It truly is the most wool-erful time of the year! ♥ My hope, having reblogged the Wovember WAL earlier this month, had been to join their Ravelry WAL. Now with the month winding down, that hope (for this year) is dashed. Yet in keeping with the spirit of woolliness, I do have a bit of Christmas felting “magic” to share with you all…

how to make a heartfelted Bramble❤tini loop ornament ||| Knitting With HeartFirst, you’ll need to purchase my Bramble♥tini Heart knitting pattern — $1.50 PDF — and knit the tiny 2-sided heart from feltable wool. Then, after barely any weaving in of loose ends, simply felt the yarn tails into a “magical” loop. And voilà, your hand-knit Bramble♥tini heart-shaped decoration is ready to be hung (on the tree, mantle, hook, doorknob, pretty well anywhere…) with care! Could this be the beginning of a hand-made tradition? ♥
Check it out and begin knitting your world full of hearts today! NOTE: these are fabulously fun gifts to knit, so it’s quite likely you’ll find yourself spreading the love and sharing smiles along the way 🙂

The single-colour Bramble♥tini Heart pictured above, was knit using US size 6/4mm needles and approximately 6 yards/5.5 metres of Herrschners worsted weight 100% wool. And since serendipity truly loves the Bramble♥tini Heart, any yarn/needle size of your choosing may be used! Non-felted yarn loops may be attached later. For felted loops, be sure to always use feltable wool and follow the 3-STEP TUTORIAL on “How to Make a Felted Loop for Hanging all your Bramble♥tini Heart-Shaped Hand-Knit Decorations”.

wrapping up 2012 . . . “Auld Lang Syne-ing” in the New Year!

winter 2012 solstice sunset view from my macTonight is New Year’s Eve… Hard to believe it, but another year is drawing to a close. Every year, as fast as you can wish your neighbour “Merry Christmas”, it seems we’re packing all the lights and decorations away for another 11 months.

My oh my, 2012 has flown right by…
quick as a wink, in the blink of an eye!

But tomorrow is the beginning of a brand new year… a fresh start… another year brimming with possibilities, the promise of opportunity and good cheer. Tomorrow is another chance to get the job done. And perhaps best of all… tomorrow, as always, is only a day away!

My heartfelt hope for 2013, is that our world will see peace. My prayer, from this particular speck of space I occupy on earth, is to help that happen. My immediate plan is to enjoy a quiet evening at home with my loving husband ❤

And so, I take today’s opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year! ❤ Jackie

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith
so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

a Sandy Hook tribute… 11 days before Christmas

JesusHoldingChild

twas’ 11 days before Christmas,
around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children
stormed through heaven’s gate.

their smiles were contagious,
their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all
the beauty they saw there.

they were filled with such joy,
they didn’t know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what
had happened earlier that day.

“where are we?” asked a
little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“this is heaven.” declared a
small boy. “we’re spending
Christmas at God’s house.”

when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.

and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.

and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.

then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“may this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”

then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“come now my children, let me show you around.”
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”

“11 days before Christmas” poem written by Cameo Smith of Mt. Wolf, PA

Who can help but smile and take comfort in the  thought of children storming through heaven’s gate! This poem is shared in memory of the 26 innocent lives lost on that 11th day before Christmas 2012—at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. My heart and prayers go out to all the families affected by this tragedy.

To the author of this uplifting poem, I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation. My search for the original source has revealed only the author’s name. Please let me know if you know the original source, that I may link back. Thank You!
