They all have rings and they’re all coming up on the calendar!

Sunday February 2nd (aka “groundhog day“… can you beLIEVE it’s already February?!?) is Super Bowl XLVIII, with Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos. My husband is a huge sports fan, so he’ll definitely be watching. And me? My plan as usual, having knit my way through several years of televised sports since marrying that wonderful man, is to “watch” the game with him! 😉 My goal is to finish up some samples for my upcoming set of heart-shaped knitting patterns! How about you? Are you ready for some football? Do you have any particular knitting project planned for your “super bowl party” sports/knitting event? Did you know that whoever wins the Super Bowl will get a ring? But there’s no reason why NFL football players should be the only ones to sport a little bling, right?!? Here’s how you can make some Sweetie♥Heart ring/bracelet “bling” of your own! 🙂

To begin, you’ll need to download my Sweetie♥KNIT♥Heart FREE knitting pattern. Click HERE to find the original post. It is also available via Craftsy and Ravelry. Along with the pattern, you’ll need small amounts of feltable wool yarn and appropriately sized knitting needles. Details for yarn/needles I used in making my sample ring/bracelet sets pictured above are as follows:

Patons Classic Worsted 100% Virgin Wool, 3-ply (PURPLISH-RED #209)
Herrschners Worsted 100% New Wool, 3-ply (DEEP PURPLE)

RING:
US size 3 / 3 mm needles
approximately 4 feet / 1.25 m yarn

BRACELET:
US size 6 / 4 mm needles
approximately 12 feet / 3.7 m double-strand yarn
(= 2 x 6 feet / 2 x 1.85 m)

Knit Picks Palette Fingering 100% wool, 2-ply (PIMENTO)

RING:
US size 1 / 2.25 mm needles
approximately 3 feet / 1 m yarn

BRACELET:
US size 3-4 / 3-4 mm needles
approximately 8-12 feet / 2.5-3 m double-strand yarn
(= 2 x 4-6 feet / 2 x 1.25-1.5 m)

Basic Instruction:

• Cast on using the Longtail CO method.
• Knit the ring’s heart “gemstone” with a single strand of yarn.
  Knit the bracelet’s heart “gemstone” with a double-strand of yarn.
• Leave approximately 6″ / 16 cms yarn tail lengths per ring for felting.
  Leave approximately 10-12″ / 25-30 cms yarn tail lengths per bracelet for felting.
  NOTE:  rings are knit single-strand, so you’ll need to attach an additional strand before felting the bands.
• Weave ends from centre B&T toward side edges of the heart. This will stabilize the position of the heart “gemstone” and keep it from flopping around. Do this before splicing and felting the band.
• Splice the tails before wetting and rubbing into felted bands. Watch in amazement, as all the yarn tail ends vanish… disappearing like magic! 🙂

  TIP:  wearing the item whilst rubbing/felting the band will help achieve the perfect fit. For “child-size” rings, try slipping the band around a similarly sized knitting needle or other object before felting.
