snowy sunsets ❤ sparkling New Year’s skies

snowy sunsets ❤ #10.
Happy 2014 Everyone!
I hope all is well with you!
How is your year so far?
Can you believe we’re already
halfway through the
first month of the year?
.

We welcomed the new year by spending a quiet evening together at home ❤ Our evening turned out to be a little quieter than planned however, since my husband was fighting the H1N1 flu 😦 H1N1 is one nasty, lingering virus! Thankfully, he is feeling much better these days 🙂 . . . Meanwhile at the neighbour’s place, sparks were flying in a festive fireworks display! Sensing this liveliness and excitement, I ran to grab the iPad and “crashed” their party from our upstairs window 😉 Here is a short clip of their light show (originally posted to my Knitting With Heart facebook page that night).

January’s weather since New Year’s has been a fairly wild ride. But when Wednesday’s ferocious windstorm blew into town, it brought mild temperatures along—so that’s a good thing! The storm wreaked havoc for one full day. Then the calm after the storm painted our skies into a spectacular sunset…  and turned blast into blest!

Here’s hoping for creative fulfillment and stunning sunsets in 2014! ❤ Jackie

    • Thank you for your lovely comment and I’m so glad you like the photos 🙂 My husband’s cold symptoms linger, but he feels a bit better every day. We’ve been staring at snow for months and would love to send you some! Take care and I hope you remain dry from your floodwaters ❤

  2. You have such a beautiful view from your house and yard of the sunsets. You are definitely blest with that and the ability to photograph it and share. We have beautaiful sunsets, but to really appreciate it to the fullest it takes a walk to the little beach 4 blocks away, which I can’t do , but maybe with my little scooter I will venture that far this summer. Who knows. I did get a ride and do a little shopping yesterday in a nearby small store walking and pushing a cart. YEAH!!!!!. Another miletstone to being more independent and on the road once again. Taking it slow and easy like the tortoise as have felt injury when doing the home exercises. The back is a delicate thing. Takes awhile for the muscles to strengthen and support it again. The process is becoming routine by now. lol One just can’t get discouraged and give up. Knitting sure helps filling many hours with creative work.
Working on another shawl trying to blend these colors of left over yarn and 3 different kinds of yarn. I have ripped out what I didn’t like a few times so far to get it more as I want it. Sometimes the blending just doesn’t work, but I have seen some people’s work where it looks beautiful and meant to be. It is just a long rectangular garter stitch one, quite relaxing to knit and “play” with the colors and yarns. Before I was doing the 3 cornered prairie shawl, also a relaxing knit project. Needed a break from the afghan pattern and counting stitches.
I took a techy break this 3 day weekend, no computer, no tablet, knitting with tv and reading mainly. It felt like such an old-fashioned weeeknd of time past. Who would have thought. No coffee. Amazing how less stressed me and my body feel today. It may become a regular routine. I was getting way too wired with the wireless. lol

    • Thanks Carol, I’m so glad you like the pics! Good to hear you’ve got your yarns full of creativity. More and more, it appears that we’re all getting a little wired with the wireless! …heh… I remember the “good ol’ days” of watching an old movie and knitting. Now with the blog, everything has had to speed up! My daily coffee always includes chocolate. But now after a few years of that, I get headaches if I miss a day… Addiction is not pretty 😦 And remember, slow and steady wins the race! I’m glad to know your schedule has allowed your body the time it needs to heal. Now soon your winter will warm up ‘n you’ll be scooting around out there again!
I totally ❤ the fact that our backyard faces west and backs onto a farmer’s field! There wouldn’t be much to take pics of, without the sunsets and vast open space… And our long/harsh winters would SURE seem a lot longer if our view was just a bunch of other houses! 🙂 ❤

      • I am not going to say I am getting better as 3 days after I did the shopping trip, I was on the floor putting a wooden train track together for my grandson and moved some way that gave me “another” back injury. Can you believe it??? Someone has a voodoo doll sticking pins in it maybe. Getting better, but weakened again. I think my spine must be 100 yrs. old compared to the rest of me by now with all its been through over the years. Rest again and some advil or aspirin. Sleeping about 12 hours. LOL Not much knitting with yarn going on this week. A lot of reading will get done though………………..

      • Well, now I am getting more rest as my tablet crashed to be returned. It had good reviews when I bought it and now on the same site has horrible ones and is not available in store or on line. Interesting!!! For the price I didn’t expect a lot, but that at least it worked and much longer than a bit over a month. lol Will get another, but really want a credit to put toward a better one and if NA guess that will be the route. With a credit at least I will have a savings for a better one now..

Very old timey, but making some beef tea broth to try and fight whatever is kicking my health, flu bug or whatever. Did the ginger ale pretzel thing and now the beef broth. No chicken in the house. lol It is always good to have some chicken soup in the freezer during these months of flu like symptoms.

So back to bed and back to reading a quiet book turning the actual pages like way back when. lol So refreshing after the tablet experience. Those pixels make my eyes dance, I think. The printed page calms them almost calling one to get some sleep. hmmmmmmmmm
        Never thought of that before.

What made you decide to add chocolate to your coffee for that real caffeine boost. Sounds good, but………………….. I even have to mix decaf and not, half to half, or I get edgy and palpitations. Yes, addictions are ugly and so difficult to break. My tablet broke so it broke mine. lol That is the only good thing about it. Buyer beware on those Black Friday and Cyber sales. It has been discovered that one can unload a lot of cheaper low quality goods and only some people will take the time to return as why bother, it didn’t cost that much. Depends on one’s budget how worthwhile the trouble to return it. Where did business ethics go? When I do etsy it is my hope to keep them alive.

        • Oh no, I hadn’t realized your tablet broke down. And here I’d figured you were just taking time to relax. Hope you manage to get that refund credit! … grrrr… So disappointing about your tablet! I’ve been strictly Mac/Apple ever since the early days and scarcely disappointed.
Chicken noodle soup is my favourite any time, though I don’t seem to get sick much! And yes, I think there’s something to that thought on the calming effects of the printed page versus tv, computers, all that digital sort of stuff. My caffeine intake doesn’t seem to affect my nerves/sleep habits. Sometimes I wish it would give me a buzz. Working on my computer seems more of a buzz than any mocha 😉 As for my daily mocha, that started one year in Mexico. I’ve never been a “coffee drinker” but overheard someone ordering it when we vacationed at an all-inclusive resort. I ditto’d them and the rest is history :~/
Hope your dream of an Etsy store is getting nearer to reality! 🙂 ❤

          • I definitely do get a buzz when I am doing the computer games on a tablet. Not sure if that is good brain activity or not. lol It can definitely be an addiction and escape from whatever. Probably in need of rest and don’t want to take it. Just like a little kid who fights it tooth and nail.

I would invest in an apple product except that it would be an investment as to the price and not sure I should share one with an impulsive 3 yr. old personality, although I always sit with him mostly even to protect this one, plus I feel so negligent if he is just off working on the tablet. Possibly the apples or a regular children’s one is made stronger to withstand what they might do with one. He knows and is good, but like I said, that age is filled with impulsive decisions and one is dropping and throwing if frustrated.

My plan was to upgrade in time with saving and then just let him have this one. Maybe I should get a children’s one if it connects to the internet and use it until an apple is in my budget. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!!! If it is an exchange and I get one that works adequately it would be OK for now as it was under $100 on the cyber week sale. Can’t get an apple for that. lol My parents way back when always said “You get what you pay for.” That usually plays itself out.

            • Yup for sure, there is truth to that old saying… The price of $100 is tough to beat, though the risk of frustration due to failing product is costly too 😦 Finding a suitable kid’s tablet would definitely make sense for you. Perhaps you might find a deal on a 2nd-hand older iPad model? Life takes a ton of tiny steps to get where we’d like to go. As for digital escape, I haven’t played a computer game in years. My computer is my work 🙂 ❤

              • lol Yes, I am a late bloomer as far as the world of games. That was my mantra with the tablet. “this is not a toy”…”This is not a toy.”….”This is not a toy”…… hmmmmmmmm…….Sometimes it did work.

I hope your mom is doing well today after surgery! ❤ After seeing the pics arranged together as a mosaic grid, I too felt quite pleasantly surprised at their calming effect 🙂 For me, the sunsets are a reminder from God that beauty persists, even amidst the long, harsh winters of our northerly climate! Take Care ❤

    • Sorry to hear your hubby’s been feeling the flu—no fun 😦 Hope he’s feeling well again and that the rest of you don’t get it! Thankfully, it never got me… Plus, my husband’s workplace had their seasonal shut-down between Christmas and New Year’s. So at least he had that time to get the worst out of the way. Now a month later and he’s feeling like the end of a “regular” cold… sigh… poor guy! Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed the photos 🙂 ❤
