It’s beginning to look a lot like
the North Pole… everywhere we go!
According to the calendar, winter doesn’t start until Saturday. But when it comes to winter, we are always ahead of schedule. Saturday will also be our darkest day with nearly 17 hours of night. And while some parts of Canada might still be dreaming of a white Christmas, we never need to dream… because we are living that dream! In little more than one month, our fields have been blanketed with two-thirds (2/3) our average winter’s worth of the white stuff. Thus, we’ve already been dashing through the snow in our horsepowered-enclosed sleighs! At this rate, well……… ‘guess we’ll just let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Could this be the beginning of another record-breaking snow year?!?

And oh the weather outside has been frightful!
Weekend mild temperatures hovered near, and even above, freezing. And although this runs the risk of icy conditions from freezing rain, it’s still a nice break from our solid week or so prior to that—when we’d found ourselves living at the centre of a minus-40ºC/F Arctic deep freeze! Getting stuck at the centre of an Arctic air mass is the coldest place you ever wouldn’t want to be… And oh baby, it is COLD when temperatures go toe-to-toe with the North freakin’ Pole!!! You may have felt its chilling effects too, since this massive system of cold air actually clawed clear through to Oklahoma and Texas in the southern USA.
Meanwhile,
outside the snow is falling
and Randy comes calling “on cue” …
More often than not, we’ve missed seeing him in action
(but think he humbly prefers it that way). We’ve also lost
track of the number of times he’s been by. Still, whenever
it snows, our “snow angel” neighbour Randy makes time
to be kind and clears a few of our neighbouring driveways ❤
Randy doesn’t know it yet, but you can be sure I’m knitting something extra special just for him! More about that next time. And are you knitting Christmas gifts too? Have you seen my patterns for heart-shaped hand-knits? They make great stocking stuffers, tree decorations and more!

Jackie, I just love your positive attitude and the way you embrace the unchangeable weather!! It makes me smile to read your posts, and it makes me miss you too!! One day, we are going to pick you up and bring you out here for a visit!! In the meantime, if there’s anything we can get for you anytime please let me know!!! It seems that writing about it with determination to lean positive has a therapeutic effect on me… And yes, letting it snow for rhyming purposes only. Let it stop, let it stop, let it stop… now! 😉

lol Venting a little and putting a positive spin on it ALWAYS helps. lol I love the creative touch of catching that sun star. Your posts always make me smile a bit, too. When I am a little down needing some grounding in the positive and here and now, I check for any of your posts. It reminds me than God is with us and all is not that bad. Today trying to get more in touch with the Christmas season so I will clean and decorate a bit. So much going on here and in progress, I am losing touch a bit, lol, not knowing what to do next. I don’t want to get lost in it with all the changes. Going back to beginning a new knitting pattern or working at one in progress always reminds me, Oh yeah, I am the knitter. lol Then I start again from there. Or with an e-mail from a friend that reminds me, Oh yeah, that is who I am. One really should not make so many changes at once in life. We are celebrating Christmas different this year, too. And then 50 degree temps for the past 2 days in Dec??? With all day rains??………………………..

Our quiet Christmas turned out much quieter than anticipated, since one of us got very sick with a cold 😦 Oh well, the fever broke and he’s beginning to feel better today 🙂 The cookies have yet to be baked, here… Yup, all we can do is write about the weather… which no one can control. And you’re getting more December rain than usual? Hope the temperatures stay steady at 50ºF so it doesn’t all turn icy! ❤

Sorry one of you were sick. Someone in our family was so sick with the flu that they missed Christmas and her birthday celebrations opting for the comfort of bed rest. Then a grand daughter got it.
We did another few days of rain and not back to freezing temps and light snow so far.
Our Christmas was quiet fun. I rather like them that way just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Guess a real party animal doesn’t live in this body. Gentle quiet fits me well unless my family is being tramped upon or one of the kids. Then Mama Bear appears out of nowhere. lol I am not even sure how that happens??!?

Yeah too bad… no fun being sick, especially at Christmas. There always seems to be something going around, heh? And when kids get sick with it, everyone seems to get a round of it. We’re not party animals here either. We enjoy the peace ‘n quiet. A good book for him and some knitting for her and we’re all set 🙂 Hope your inner mamma bear gets lots of gentle quiet in 2014 ❤

lol What does that symbol mean beside the smiley face? It shows up as a rectangle with some white, but I haven’t a clue as to what it is or means. lol So much to learn.
I have had the greatest morning working at my stamped cross stitch teddy bear picture. I do the kits as they are so pretty and just plain relaxing instead of being a purist who must create her own design. And I have been knitting on the afghan just relaxing in rocking chair with tv. Nice when you can sit comfortably in a rocking chair enjoying some video while you work. lol This afghan is just fun as no rhyme nor reason and just mixing the colors as they come up and seem the one to choose from the stash. I never quite know how the two mixed yarns will knit up together until they are actually knitted in. Like a yarn adventure!

Sounds like a perfect morning 🙂 I often knit while watching the old black/white movies from the 30’s-40’s. Your crafting interests have quite the span! I love your fearlessly inventive theories on yarn 🙂 And there’s nothing wrong with stamped cross stitch… We can’t all be purists all of the time, after all! 😉 ❤ ❤

You do spread love with your words.
Now we are in heat snap and the cat won’t come inside and it is not all that warm, but he does have a fluffy longer haired fur coat.
My creative brain just needs to rest sometimes so I love doing the kits which really are more beautiful than what I would create. Sometimes I do embellish a bit, but one could drive oneself crazy trying to do a piece with perfect stitches every single stitch so one could display their perfect technique.
The theories just come because for the most part, after the first early lessons I have taught myself so the rules are what was on hand and what I could easily do. lol Not a purist in knitting either, plus my interest in these things come from the nostalgia or hominess of folk art which has its roots more in that. When craft shows were really popular in this area that was the base for most of the work. People who made do with folk art were the purists, I guess, in it. They didn’t have the funds to buy, so created with what they had which seems so intelligent and creative to have pretty things because one made them instead of ordering them on line or buying the finest materials. Somehow that captures me and my creative instincts.

Thanks Carol 🙂 This week’s weather is mild for us too, with temps 10-15 degrees celcius above average! Mild temps are always welcome, although all this up-n-down temperature jumping has me feeling kinda blah… like spring fever and cabin fever at the same time

Love the snowy pictures. I live in Socal where it barely rains a tea cup full every now and then. I have to drive for miles to get to any snow, and it’s not much. Oh well, guess I’ll be happy to see the snow from elsewhere…
